1       BACKGROUND (Verdana #12 bold caps)
1.1   INTRODUCTION (Verdana #10 bold caps)
This section comprises of general aspects related to the proposed topic of research.
1.1.1 Subsections (Verdana #10 bold sentence case)
1.1.1.1 Sub-subsections (Verdana #10 bold italics sentence case)

1.2   DRUG PROFILE
A profile of the selected drug or drugs either synthetic or of plant origin is to be included.

1.3 LITERATURE REVIEW
The RS is required to thoroughly search the contemporary literature and researches done in the same area. It is required that the students use variety of sources of information such as: internet, chemical abstracts and Medline, patent searches – prior art search - (may log on to sites viz. www.wipo.org, www.indianpatents.org.in, www.jpo.go.jp, www.uspto.gov, www.espacenet.com, www.surfip.net, etc for such searches) or interact with industry to identify REAL NEED-BASED areas of research.

Further students must positively visit a National Library for literature survey. Literature should be arranged in reverse chronological order (i.e. starting with the latest).

2.   RESEARCH ENVISAGED
It is expected that a broad summary of the present status of work and unresolved research issues in the area are high-lighted base on the background of the proposed research. It should clearly indicate the perception of the research work and should not be a mere repetition of the topic of research. What is to be achieved as an outcome of the research has to be visualized while describing the objective(s) of the research.

3. METHODOLOGY
The logical steps which are to be followed in investigating the current problem(s) are to be presented under this head. A clear idea of literature and data sources, experimental set up, data collection and information retrieval methods, and analytical techniques to be used in the research should be reflected adequately.
In addition to the above, the methodology should, importantly, address the following four points/aspects (wherever applicable):
  • Mechanism of action involved in the proposed method
  • Structure/ interaction at the molecular level
  • Validation (if applicable) of proposed/developed method, equipment, process etc.
  • Statistical treatment of data (specify the statistical test to be employed and specify the level set for ‘p’ for commenting on the statistical significance of results)
4.      REFERENCES
The citation of literature should be done in the standard, internationally accepted Vancouver style. The citations must be indicated by Arabic numerals in the text in bold and as superscript. The references should be cited in order of their appeaerance in the text.
